Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows Part 1

Review for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1
Warning! Spoiler Alert!

First off let me say that going into this movie, I was a little apprehensive. I knew it would only be half of the book and I knew there would be a cliffhanger ending but nothing prepared me for the artistic visualization of the film. The ending left half of the audience in tears. I knew what was coming, but just like when you watched Titanic the first time, even knowing the ship would sink, you cried when it went down.
It’s been a while since I read Deathly Hollows and maybe I should have re-read it before I went to see the movie, but from my memory stand point, it was dead on. The main parts were exactly as I remembered them in my mind to a tee.
With that being said, it is my opinion that Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows Part 1 is more for the older fans rather than the newer ones. It is long and drawn out but considering the book itself is seven hundred and fifty nine pages, that is expected. The only thing I noticed they left out were the peacocks at Malfoy’s house. No, seriously, there were some subtle changes but none that any Potter fan would truly miss. The movie ends on page five hundred and one of Deathly Hollows which is more than half of the book. It makes me wonder how they are going to compensate for the shortness of the second movie. If I had to guess I would probably say there is more action in the next film.
For the new fans and the ones who only watch the films and not read the books: You may get lost. There are a lot of names thrown around and if you don’t know the story already, you may find yourself playing connect the dots and get shushed in the theater because you are leaning over to your Potter junkie friend asking questions through the entire thing.
To my fellow bookworms: I found the book a delight to read when I read it and I enjoyed the movie just as much.
Overall I give it a four out of five rating. It would have gotten a five but the average audience might struggle with the plot, so I give it four for the fact that it stayed so close to the plot of the book. Way to go Undesirable #1.
